To make a long story short, Winterfox was a particularly vicious troll who infested a number of LJ comms and other sites going back to at least 2003. Around about 2009, when Racefail went down, she discovered that she could cloak her trolling in social justice terms, and proceeded to wreck several book review communities. About that time, she set up a book review blog as Requires Only That You Hate. She mostly dropped the Winterfox persona, but it was an open secret that the two were the same person. Her reviews sometimes brought up valid criticisms of the books she reviewed, but she did not restrict herself to critiquing the books; she invariably heaped savage, violent personal abuse upon the authors. She internet-stalked her victims and harassed them for years. At least one person attempted suicide. But because she presented herself as a crusader against racism and sexism, she managed to get away with it.
In the next couple of years, a talented young science fiction writer, Benjanun Sriduangkaew, appeared on the scene. She was friendly and sweet and presented herself as a total newcomer to fanatasy and science fiction. She was nominated for awards. And then, a few weeks ago, it came out that she and RH/Winterfox were the same person. And her vicious reviews, it's looking like, were part of a deliberate strategy (combined with harassment and actualfax blackmail) to eliminate writers she saw as competitors.
If you want to read a saga that makes folks like MsScribe and Thanfiction look like pikers, check it out. Fair warning, it's pretty damned revolting.
